Dominik
Hasek has been a tower of strength for the sabres and has been the
finalist for the Hart
Trophy for four of the last five years, winner of the past two.
He was runner-up to Sergi
"what is he doing now" Federov in 94 and hands down winner over
Paul "give me more money" Kariya" in 97 and dominent winner this
year. While Hasek was
shining at the skills competition and winning an Olympic Gold Medal,
these fellas were nowhere to be found. Gumby or Kramer as some people
call him, earns every cent of his 8 million per year.
Hasek
with his well deserved trophies. The Hart and the Vezina.
Besides
winning the Vezina
Trophy four of the last five years, Hasek had won the William
M. Jennings Trophy with Grant Fuhr in 94 and the Lester
B. Person Award the last two years which is voted on by all the players in the league
(they know who the best is).
Two years with a Hart/Vezina/Jennings combination what more
can you say about him. With another year and lots of playoff experience
under the Sabres belt and the addition of a offensive weapon the CUP
is within reach. Buffalo will not stand for anything else.
Mike
Peca gained recognition through his huge open ice hits. If you weren't
paying attention you payed the price. In 1996-97 he ranked in the top twenty in plus/minus
at +26. Good enough to win the Frank J. Selke
award as the best defensive forward. Just about everyone with a better plus/minus
played on high scoring teams not bad for a player on a low scoring team.
Mike played in the allstar game in 1997-98.
Ted
Nolan who made Buffalo the hardest working team in the league knows
how to get the most out of his players. This native Indian had to sit
out the 1997-98 season after winning the Jack Adams
award as the best coach. The head office maybe taking a look at Nolan this year.
